Week Two - Thursday, April 18

Earth Day – Next Monday, April 22 is National Earth Day! The Green Team is inviting teachers who teach Skills to sign up and participate in a school clean up. Also, we are asking that we reduce the use of electricity and turn off any lights in room that is not being used or teachers can opt to teach with the lights off. Monday is supposed to be a beautiful sunny day so the sun light might be enough to light up the room! The Green Team will also be sending out some videos that you can show your classes during Reading Period on Monday.

Chess News - We have two chess tournaments to announce.

First is the School Chess Team Championship, which will take place May 5th at Colonel Gray.  We are looking to get a team or more, to represent our school. For more information talk to Mr. Valois (grade 9 upstairs).  You have until Monday, April 22nd. 

Secondly, the annual Stonepark Chess Tournament will be taking place in the coming weeks.  You have until next Monday, April 22nd to sign the registration sheet located by Mr. Valois's classroom (grade 9 upstairs).

Badminton – Congratulations to Mia McGee Gallant who came second in bantam girls’ singles and secured a spot in badminton provincials next week.  Also, congratulations go to Stella Myers, Sam Dunn and Liam Moore who all finished fourth in the zone singles yesterday.  A great showing for our badminton players at zones.  

Flag Football – Flag football tryouts will start tomorrow on Friday.  AA boys (grade 9’s) will tryout from 4-5:30 (note the time change) and A boys grade 8’s will tryout from 3-5.  Both of these tryouts will be in the bowl. Please be prepared for the weather.  Saturday tryouts will continue and will be indoors (again this is a time change).  Grade 9 boys will go from 11-12:30 and grade 8 boys from 12:30-2. Please have indoor sneakers.  Remember there are sign up lists on the PE bulletin board.

AA girls flag football tryouts (grade 9 girls) will start on Monday from 3-4:45. It could be indoors or outdoors, so please be prepared. There is a sign-up list on the PE bulletin board.

Grade 8 Girls Flag Football - There is a sign-up sheet posted outside of the gym for any girl in grade eight who is interested in playing flag football. We will begin practicing next Monday, April 22nd, from 3:00 to 4:30. Please see Mr. Bradley or Ms. R. if you have any questions. Go Tigers!

An announcement will be made Monday morning for grade 7 girls flag tryouts and we are still looking for a coach for grade 7 boys flag football.  If anyone knows someone interested, please let Mr. Bridges know.

Popcorn Night – tonight Student Council is hosting the “Popcorn Night” fundraiser for Easter Seals! We will be showing Grown Ups in the cafeteria, and when you arrive, you will just pay your $5, and you will get a small popcorn, and either a chair or a mat on the floor of the cafeteria. There are only about 25 mats at the school, but you can bring a pillow if you want to sit on one of these to watch the movie. Doors will open at 7 PM, and the movie will start at 7:15. Bring extra cash because there will be a canteen, and small popcorns will be sold for $1 each, plus other snacks will be available to buy. Bring your friends and come on out for a fun night of good snacks, good laughs, and a great time!

Student Council – there will be a very short student council meeting at morning break in Mr. Roche’s room.

Table Tennis Tournament – Sign your name up outside the Wellness Room door if you want to play in the annual Stonepark Table Tennis Tournament!
